Description

Summary

Methylsylfonulmethane (MSM) is a key source of bioavailable Sulfur, a nutrient that is absolutely vital to good health. [1] MSM is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and be taken up by the cells in the brain directly. [2]

Benefits and Effects

Antioxidant

MSM may regulate important antioxidant and cell repair processes throughout the body; and, by changing the biochemistry of the body to be more resistant to the damage caused by free oxygen radicals. [3, 4]

Heart Health

MSM is great for the heart, brain, and blood stream. MSM does this by, alleviating oxidation damage and inflammation that leads to blood clots in the arteries. [5]

Muscle protection

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of MSM supplementation helps keep muscles from becoming damaged due to exercise, making it easier to build new muscle. [6, 7, 8]

Osteoarthritis

The sulfur MSM provides to the body may help repair sustained to joints, leading to healthier, less painful, more mobile joints. [2, 9, 10, 11, 12]

Anti-Inflammatory

High levels of sulfur from MSM prevent immune system cells called prostaglandins from activating. [13, 14] This has healthy effects throughout the body, including lower intensity allergies and less colon damage from inflammatory bowel syndrome. [15, 16, 17]

Wound healing

MSM enables healing from injuries faster and easier. These wounds are also much less likely to be infected, and typically heal more completely. [18]

Pain relief

Methylsylfonulmethane may also reduce pain by reducing inflammation and damage, such as in arthritis. [19]

Anti-Allergy

High dosages of MSM have been linked to less intense seasonal allergies, clearer noses, reduced swelling, and lower use of anti-inflammatory drugs. [20]

Anti-Cancer

High MSM doses may help suppress the growth, development, and spreading of tumors. MSM may kill cancer cells and reduce the size of tumors. [13, 21]

Skin and hair rejuvenation

MSM can be used to rejuvenate the hair and skin. MSM may help repair damaged keratin, the protein that makes up our hair, skin, and nails. [13]

How Product Works

MSM provides bioavailable sulfur to the body. An abundance of sulfur enables the body to work better, improving overall health. [15]

Bioavailable sulfur from MSM also is used to chelate, or bind up, metal ions in the body, which is a major source of oxidative damage. [22, 23] It also helps tone down the immune system, reducing inflammation, and the ability of cells to replicate, attacking tumors. [9]

Dosage

Methylsulfonylmethane dosages as high as 2600mg/day have been studied. [24] Typically, this MSM powder dosage is dissolved in water and taken three times a day, but it can also be taken in doses of 50 mg/kg once a day.

Side Effects

MSM side effects are mild and usually include stomach problems, skin rashes, and minor swelling. People generally tolerate even high amounts of MSM. [25, 26]

Stacks

Bioavailable sulfur from MSM works very well alongside selenium, copper, zinc, manganese, vitamin E, vitamin C, and other antioxidants. [1]
