Discovery, History & Research
Discovery
The Discover of 5-MeO-MiPT is cited as being first discussed by in a paper published in 1985 by a team led by the famous Alexander Shulgin.
History
Since its first publication of synthesis in 1985, 5-MeO-MiPT does not seem to have any history of human usage other than some toxicology reports and some papers discussion the online psychoactive use of “designer drugs”. After some initial availability in the research chemical boom between 2009 and 2016, 5-MeO-MiPT was made illegal in many countries under various laws. Notably, in the UK, USA and China.
Research
Research into 5-MeO-MiPT has revolved predominantly around its discussion as an online “designer drug” utilised as a “legal high” and so the publications (other than some early synthesis papers) revolve around the toxicology and illicit use online. There has been some research into the receptor binding of 5-MeO-MiPT.

Chemical Structural Data
5-MeO-MiPT is a synthetic indole alkaloid molecule withing the broader tryptamine class of compound. The key principle within it’s Tryptamine family is the core, which comprises a bicyclic idole heterocycle with a R3 attached to the amino group via an ethyl chain. However, with 5-MeO-MiPT, there is a methoxy (MeO) group which has been substituted at the R5 with another methyl and isopropyl chain bound to its terminal amino. 5-MeO-MiPT is technically the substituted isopropyl homologue of 5-MeO-DMT.
Structure-Activity & Chemical Similarity Predictions
Based on the knows receptor profiling we’ve seen with the closer chemical analogues such as 5-MeO-DMT, 5-MeO-DiPT, DiPT, and MiPT. It would be fair to assume that 5-MeO-MiPT act as a psychedelic and entactogen much like other Tryptamines with it’s efficacy coming, primarily from its affinity for the 5-HT2A receptor as a partial agonist. There may also be some action on the MAO pathway.
