About the Position

The Senior Operations Manager provides strategic management and is ultimately responsible for product quality, production, fulfillment, inventory, and employee safety.

Direct reports for this position currently include the Production Manager and Operations Manager, and will eventually include a Facilities/Safety Manager and Quality Assurance Manager.

As a leader, this person will be a champion of the company's mission while fostering a positive company culture.

Day-to-day work involves administering and updating processes and procedures, implementing continuous improvement, as well as leading across multiple operational departments. This person will be a critical member of the management team and a primary influencer of long-term strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee facility-wide daily operations and ensure collaboration between department managers while driving continuous improvement across quality assurance, safety, and operations efficiency through project and goal assignment
  • Collaborate with HR in all aspects of operations labor: identify skill and labor gaps, plan effective hierarchy and succession, direct learning, create and update job descriptions and policies, ensure progressive discipline compliance, new employee orientation, training, and work instruction sign-off documentation
  • Set requirements, expectations, goals, and metrics for operational department managers, and measure performance through the following: goal and metric tracking, providing continual feedback, reviews, and holding managers accountable for their performance and the performance of their departments
  • Work with support staff (HR, Finance, IT, and Supply Chain Managers) to ensure adequate resources and support for projects and initiatives
  • Solidify business continuity through developing and improving cross training programs for managerial and non-managerial positions, overseeing maintenance and improvements to the primary facility and backup “hot site” facility, and participating in new facility selection
  • Ensure raw materials and finished goods quality by directing operational improvements through project and goal assignment for GMP compliance as outlined in CFR Title 21 Part 111
  • Assist with implementing ERP and WMS changes in operational departments
  • Oversee the procurement and benchmarking of operational assets to improve efficiency, safety, and quality
  • Analyze P&L statements for operational cost reduction, and collaborate with supply chain managers on shipping method cost reduction and carrier compliance

Requirements

  • 7+ years of direct management experience in production or distribution
  • Proven experience implementing or improving warehouse management systems and processes
  • Must be flexible to work a variety of hours as business demands, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Experience with the full staffing lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions, and terminations
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and applying Lean principals to operations
  • Able to access all areas of building (ascending and descending ladders and stairs safely)
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and applying Lean principals to operations

Nice-to-haves

  • Ecommerce fulfillment experience
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations
  • Interest in long-term career development through assignment to future facilities in the Midwest and West Coast
  • ERP, WMS, or MRP implementation experience
  • Process manufacturing experience with formulation or packaging
  • Statistical process control experience
  • Degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field and MBA preferred
